NUJ Kano Inaugurates Online Media Chapel

The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has inaugurated the Kano Online Media Chapel with its office at the premises of the council’s headquarters.
The development took place shortly after a night dinner being organised by the union for its members, as a closing ceremony of the 2025 “press week” activities.
The event marked the beginning of the Chapel with a full recognition, as a fully member and a body under the union, a milestone achieved by the present leadership of the council.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, revealed that the Kano State Governor has approved the training of members of the association, to enhance their professional capacity.
He further urged members to make effective use of the NUJ facilities and work closely with the union’s leadership in line with professional ethics as well as to ensure sanity in the system.
Leading the opening of the Chapel office, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, expressed his pride with laudable initiatives by the leadership of NUJ Kano.

He stated that the union at the national level, planned to come with a various developmental initiatives in the coming year 2026, meant to positively touch the lives of the journalists across the country.
Comrade Yahaya who commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his passion to journalism profession, he urged practicing journalists to be good Ambassadors by protecting the image of their profession.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ Kano State Council, Comrade Suleman Abdullahi Dederi, assured that the union would continue to implement people-oriented and welfare-driven policies aimed at improving the wellbeing and professional standards of journalists in the state.
The chairman of the NUJ Kano State Council, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, and the Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Dangambo, has supported the national president, while Commissioning the office.

At the event, awards of recognition were presented to some selected individuals, due to their immense contributions to the growth of journalism.
They include the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, the Director General, Media and Communication to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, and the former Commissioner for Information in Kano State, Comrade Baba Halilu Dantiye.
