Bandit Attack: 61 Dead Bodies Recovered In Niger

At least 61 bodies including those of security personnel, and civilians have been recovered from the surrounding forests after a bandit attack on Tuesday in Bagna, and Erena towns in Shiroro Local Government Area of ​​Niger State, Nigeria.

Premium Times reports that the bodies were recovered from the surrounding forests by residents, days after the horrific incident that included kidnapping.

However, only the bodies of civilians have been buried in Erena so far, while those of security personnel have been deposited at the morgue of the Government General Hospital in Minna.

According to the newspaper, a resident of Erena said that the victims included vigilantes, national security personnel and civilians. However, the police authorities have confirmed the killing of only three patrolmen, as the newspaper reported.

Although residents praised the security forces for their quick response to the attack and repelling them, they also criticized the government for failing to act after receiving intelligence that could have prevented the attack.

As reported by Premium Times, the attack has left the community homeless, with hundreds of residents seeking shelter at Zumba Central Primary School and other locations in Shiroro LGA.
