Alumni Of St. Louis Senior High School Demands Justice Over Tragic Death Of Nihal
The Old Girls Association of the St. Louis Senior Secondary School in collaboration with parents, and stakeholders has expressed deep concern over the recent tragic death of a 14 years old Nihal.
In a statement issued on Friday 19th June, 2026, by the Abuja Chapter of the Association, it demands truth, safety and immediate reform at St. Louis Secondary School Kano, to ensure justice for Maimuna Salisu Yaro (Nihal), who died following severe corporal punishment in the school.
The statement read;
The *St. Louis Old Girls Association, Abuja* Chapter, has received with deep sorrow the tragic news of the death of a 14-year-old student of St. Louis Secondary School, Kano, following the events of June 13, 2026.
“Maimuna Salisu Yaro (fondly called NIHAL) was not just a student. She was a child, a daughter, a classmate, a friend and a young life entrusted to a school environment where safety, dignity, care, and protection should be sacred and non-negotiable.”

“As old girls of St. Louis, this matter touches us deeply. We passed through the same institution, and because of that bond, we believe the school must be supported to do what is right by cooperating fully, clarifying facts, supporting the family, and help restore public confidence through transparency, responsibility, and moral courage.
“It is in this light that the St. Louis Old Girls Association (SLOGA) Abuja Chapter, alongside the global collective of St. Louis Secondary School Kano Alumni, Parents, and Stakeholders, write with deep sorrow, heavy hearts, and a shared sense of moral responsibility following the tragic death of Nihal.
Reports indicate that Maimuna collapsed and died following severe corporal punishment for arriving late to a prayer session. She was allegedly forced to kneel for hours in the sun without water and was tragically pronounced dead on arrival at a private hospital.
“As a united community of old girls, parents, and stakeholders, this matter touches us deeply. We passed through this very institution, and the St. Louis name was built on discipline, compassion, and excellence. Today, that legacy is being tested. We refuse to let it be stained by silence, fear, institutional convenience, or unchecked authority. Silence is complicity.
*Our Position*
*Every Child Deserves Safety:* Maimuna was a child, a young life entrusted to a school environment where safety, dignity, care, and protection must be sacred and non-negotiable. No school rule, act of discipline, or lateness is ever worth a child’s life.
*Truth Before Reputation:* We call for absolute transparency. Institutions are only as honorable as their willingness to tell the truth. If there was negligence, excessive punishment, or institutional failure, those responsible must face the law.
*Due Process Without Protectionism:* We are asking for calm, but not silence. We demand fairness, but it must not be delayed.
*The school must be supported to do what is right:* cooperate fully, clarify the facts, support the grieving family, and restore public confidence through transparency and responsibility.
*Our Demands*
*Full Independent Investigation:* We call on the Kano State Government, the Kano State Ministry of Education, the Nigeria Police Force, and relevant child-protection authorities to launch an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Maimuna’s death. This must include regular public updates to the family and the St. Louis community.
*Immediate Suspensions:* We urge that any staff or student alleged to have been involved, or whose role is material to the investigation, be temporarily withdrawn from duties or activities pending the conclusion of the investigation. This is vital to protect all parties, preserve evidence, prevent intimidation, and protect the integrity of the process.
*Unrestricted Institutional Access:* The school must not remain locked down. Relevant government officials, parents, and independent observers must be granted unrestricted access to ensure a transparent fact-finding process.
*Public Disclosure:* We demand the immediate public disclosure of the timelines, the names of the staff involved, and the official medical reports related to Maimuna’s collapse and passing.
*Urgent Policy Review and Safeguarding Reform:* Beyond this specific case, we call for an urgent statewide review and strict prohibition of dangerous corporal punishment and harmful disciplinary practices in all schools.
This painful moment must catalyze stronger safeguarding policies, emergency response protocols, parent notification procedures, and clear accountability structures across educational institutions.
*Immediate Psychological Counseling:* We demand the immediate provision of comprehensive psychological counseling and trauma support for the students who witnessed this tragedy, Maimuna’s classmates, the grieving family, and all affected stakeholders within the community to help them process this profound shock and loss.
To Maimuna’s parents and family: You do not grieve alone. Hundreds of voices stand firmly with you. Maimuna’s memory must not disappear into unanswered questions. Her death must lead to truth for her parents, justice for her life, stronger protection through targeted reforms for every child still walking those corridors!
Justice for Maimuna (Nihal).
Truth for her parents.
Safety for every child.
Transparency, responsibility, and reform from every institution entrusted with children.
